Charles-Emile Reynaud's 1877 refinement of the zoetrope, replacing its narrow viewing slits with an inner ring of angled mirrors so a strip of drawn images reflected back as a single, brighter, far less distorted moving picture. Reynaud went on to project praxinoscope images through his Theatre Optique from 1892, the first public exhibition of animated pictures, years before the Lumiere brothers' first film screening.
