Media Industry

The structural, economic and format concepts of how media industries are organized and how media products reach audiences, as opposed to the content or craft of any one work. Belongs here: industry-shaping concepts such as media consolidation, media convergence and narrowcasting, distribution and format concepts such as video on demand and the mass-circulation magazine, the graphic novel as a publishing format, and named industry eras such as the golden age of arcade video games. Does not belong here: audience-reception theory, grouped under media studies, or named organizations themselves, which belong to the organization type rather than the concept type.
