Scarecrow (1973 film)

Hollywood and English-Language Studio Cinema

Scarecrow is a 1973 American film directed by Jerry Schatzberg, starring Gene Hackman and Al Pacino. It follows Max, a short tempered ex-convict, and Lion, a childlike former sailor, who meet by chance in California and set off across the country together planning to open a car wash in Pittsburgh, their friendship tested by hardship along the way. The film shared the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film, the predecessor of the Palme d'Or, at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival with the British film The Hireling.
