Patton (film)

Hollywood and English-Language Studio Cinema

Patton is a 1970 American war film directed by Franklin J. Schaffner for 20th Century Fox, following General George S. Patton from his command of II Corps after the defeat at Kasserine Pass through the campaigns in Sicily and France to his relief from command after controversial postwar remarks. It won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, and George C. Scott, who won Best Actor for the title role, became the first actor to decline the award, citing his objection to competitive acting prizes. The film's opening monologue, delivered before an enormous American flag, remains one of cinema's most quoted scenes.
