Pacific Rim (film)

Pacific Rim is a 2013 American science fiction film directed by Guillermo del Toro from a screenplay by Travis Beacham and del Toro, built on a story by Beacham. It imagines a future in which colossal sea monsters called Kaiju climb out of an interdimensional portal on the floor of the Pacific Ocean, and nations respond by building giant humanoid machines called Jaegers. Each Jaeger needs two co-pilots whose minds are joined by a neural link known as the Drift. The cast is led by Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman. Legendary Pictures produced the film and Warner Bros. Pictures distributed it, with principal photography running in Toronto from November 2011 to April 2012. It opened in July 2013 and earned about 411 million dollars worldwide, with China its largest market. It is the first film of the Pacific Rim franchise and is regarded as a tribute to kaiju, mecha and anime.
