One Piece

Manga and Anime-Originated Franchises

One Piece is a Japanese manga and anime franchise created by Eiichiro Oda, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997 and, as of the mid 2020s, still ongoing, following the pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as they search for a legendary treasure called the One Piece across a vast fictional ocean world of islands and rival pirate crews. Its collected volumes have sold more than 500 million copies worldwide, making it the best selling manga series in history, and its anime adaptation, airing since 1999, is among the longest running anime series ever produced, alongside numerous theatrical films, video games and, from 2023, a live action series produced by Netflix. Oda has maintained direct creative control over the manga's story for its entire run, and the series is widely regarded within the anime and manga industry as one of the most influential and commercially significant works of its era, credited with sustaining Weekly Shonen Jump's circulation and shaping the modern shonen adventure genre.
