My Little Pony is a toy and media franchise created by Hasbro, launched in 1981 with a line of pony figures given colorful coats and manes and a symbol called a cutie mark on each pony flank. The toy line was adapted into an animated television series and specials from Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions beginning in 1986, giving the ponies names, personalities and a shared setting that carried across later toy generations, television series and films. Hasbro has periodically reworked the line into new generations to keep it current, and a franchise originally aimed at young girls and their parents grew a substantial adult fan following from the 2010s onward.
