LeRoy Robert Ripley (February 22, 1890 to May 27, 1949) was an American cartoonist, entrepreneur and amateur anthropologist, known for creating the Ripley's Believe It or Not! newspaper panel series, along with its television and radio shows, which feature odd facts from around the world. The subjects of his cartoons and text ranged from sports feats to little-known facts about unusual and exotic customs. The atlas records him as a creator of the Ripley's Believe It or Not! franchise, which moved from the newspaper page to radio and television.
