The Wall Street Journal is an American daily business and financial newspaper first published on 8 July 1889 by journalists Charles Henry Dow and Edward Jones, together with Charles Bergstresser, who had previously founded Dow Jones and Company and created the index that became the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The first issue ran four pages and sold for two cents, and the paper is now edited in New York City and distributed worldwide as a division of Dow Jones, owned by News Corp; as of 2025 it carries more than 4.5 million digital and print subscribers, second among traditional newspapers only to The New York Times.
