An American film production and distribution studio formed on 31 May 1935 by the merger of William Fox's Fox Film Corporation and Twentieth Century Pictures, one of Hollywood's major studios for nearly ninety years until the Walt Disney Company acquired it in 2019. In 1953 it introduced CinemaScope, the widescreen anamorphic format that began the modern era of wide theatrical projection.
