An American computer animation studio founded on 3 February 1986 by Edwin Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith with funding from Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who paid five million dollars for the underlying technology rights from George Lucas and invested a further five million dollars as capital. Its 1995 feature Toy Story was the first fully computer-animated feature film, a breakthrough that made Pixar the first computer animation studio to succeed at theatrical features, and the studio became a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios in 2006.
