Media Consolidation

Also Known As Media Ownership Concentration
Media Industry

The process by which ownership of outlets across broadcast television, radio, newspapers, streaming and digital media becomes concentrated in fewer corporate hands. Concentration has increased substantially since the 1990s, reducing the number of independent media companies while expanding the reach of the largest conglomerates, a trend that raises ongoing concern about diversity of viewpoints and the survival of local news.
