Die Hard (franchise)

Die Hard is an American media franchise that originated with Roderick Thorp's 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever, which was adapted into the first Die Hard film in 1988. All five films in the series revolve around John McClane, a police detective who keeps finding himself at the center of a crisis where he is both the only real hope against disaster and the very target the criminals want stopped. The franchise's success has made McClane's confrontations with heavily armed criminal groups, most often in confined settings such as an office tower or an airport, one of the most imitated templates in American action cinema.
