The Wedding Banquet

The Wedding Banquet is a 1993 comedy-drama directed by Ang Lee, a Taiwan-United States co-production shot in Mandarin Chinese and English. It follows a gay Taiwanese immigrant in Manhattan who arranges a marriage of convenience with a mainland Chinese woman to satisfy his traditional parents and secure her a green card, a plan complicated when his parents fly in to plan an elaborate wedding banquet and he must hide his relationship with his male partner. At the 1993 Berlin International Film Festival it shared the Golden Bear for best film with Xie Fei's Woman Sesame Oil Maker.
