Pietà is a 2012 South Korean crime thriller directed by Kim Ki-duk. It depicts the mysterious relationship between a brutal debt collector and a middle aged woman who claims to be the mother who abandoned him, blending Christian symbolism with highly sexual content to explore themes of abandonment and redemption. Pietà premiered at the 69th Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2012, where it became the first Korean film to win the Golden Lion at one of the three major European festivals, before its South Korean theatrical release two days later.
