Argo (2012 film)

Hollywood and English-Language Studio Cinema

Argo is a 2012 American historical political thriller directed by, produced by and starring Ben Affleck. Adapted by screenwriter Chris Terrio from Tony Mendez's memoir The Master of Disguise and a 2007 magazine article, it dramatizes the 1980 rescue of six United States diplomats from Tehran during the Iran hostage crisis by having them pose as a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a science fiction movie. The film won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, and received praise for its direction, editing and score, though historians have noted it understates the roles played by Canadian and British diplomats in the real rescue.
