The Big Lebowski

The Big Lebowski is a 1998 film written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, following Jeffrey Lebowski, an unemployed Los Angeles slacker who goes by The Dude and is played by Jeff Bridges, whose case of mistaken identity with a wealthy man of the same name drags him into a rambling kidnapping plot involving his bowling friends Walter, played by John Goodman, and Donny. Its shaggy-dog plotting, deliberately absurd dialogue and The Dude's laid-back, unbothered persona were met with mixed reviews and modest box office on release but grew steadily into one of the most quoted cult films of its era, spawning fan festivals and an informal belief system, Dudeism, built around the character's outlook.
