Joel Coen

Joel Daniel Coen, born November 29, 1954, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, is an American filmmaker who built his reputation directing, writing, editing and producing feature films alongside his brother Ethan Coen. Their joint filmography includes Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou, No Country for Old Men, True Grit and Inside Llewyn Davis, among others, earning the pair broad critical acclaim and multiple Academy Award wins and nominations across their collaboration. In the 2020s Joel began directing solo, adapting Shakespeare's Macbeth for the 2021 film The Tragedy of Macbeth, his first feature made without his brother, which went on to earn three Academy Award nominations.
