Founded in 1912 by William Wadsworth Hodkinson as a film distribution company, then merged in 1916 with Adolph Zukor's Famous Players and Jesse Lasky's Feature Play Company to become one of Hollywood's founding studios. It grew into the largest film company of its era and one of the five major integrated studios of the golden age, and remains one of Hollywood's oldest continuously operating major studios.
