Columbia Pictures traces its founding to 19 June 1918, when brothers Jack and Harry Cohn and their partner Joe Brandt formed Cohn-Brandt-Cohn Film Sales in New York, with Harry Cohn running production in Hollywood while Brandt and Jack Cohn handled sales and distribution. The company adopted the Columbia Pictures name on 10 January 1924 and went public two years later, having released its first feature film in 1922. The studio is headquartered at the Thalberg Building in Culver City, California, and remains one of the major Hollywood film studios.
