Rocky

Rocky is an American sports drama franchise created by and starring Sylvester Stallone as the Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa, beginning with the film Rocky in 1976, which Stallone wrote on spec and which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. The original series followed Balboa's rise from a small time boxer to heavyweight champion and his later career and personal struggles across five sequels released between 1979 and 2006, and the franchise was extended into the Creed spin off series beginning in 2015, which centers on the son of Rocky's late rival and friend Apollo Creed while continuing Balboa's own story as a mentor. The films are known for their underdog narrative structure, their training montages set to the instrumental theme Gonna Fly Now, and the Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which have become a real world tourist attraction, and the franchise's films have grossed well over 1.5 billion dollars worldwide across nine films.
