Richard Felton Outcault was an American cartoonist who lived from 14 January 1863 to 25 September 1928. He was the creator of the series The Yellow Kid and Buster Brown and is considered a key pioneer of the modern comic strip. His work for newspapers helped define how a recurring character and a sequence of drawn panels could carry a popular feature, and The Yellow Kid in particular is often cited in discussions of the origins of the American comic strip.
