Osamu Tezuka

Osamu Tezuka was a Japanese manga artist and animator whose prolific body of work, beginning in the 1940s, is widely credited with establishing many of the storytelling and visual conventions of modern manga and, through his animation studio Mushi Production, of Japanese television anime as well. His best known creations include Astro Boy, about a robot boy with human emotions, and Kimba the White Lion, both of which were adapted into influential early Japanese television anime series. Tezuka is often referred to within Japan as the God of Manga in recognition of his defining and prolific influence on the medium across a career spanning several decades and an extremely large body of published work.
