Over a career of about sixty years he has worked as a correspondent, moderator or anchor at CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox News and CNN. After Harvard he reported for The Boston Globe, then moved to NBC, where he covered the White House, anchored the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News and moderated Meet the Press. At ABC he anchored Primetime Thursday and Nightline, and from 2003 to 2021 he hosted Fox News Sunday, moderating the 2016 and 2020 presidential debates. His awards include a Peabody Award and a George Polk Award, and his papers are held at the University of Texas at Austin.
