Nathan Rabin is an American writer and critic of film, television, music and popular culture. He was the first head writer of The A.V. Club, the entertainment publication of The Onion, a post he held until he left the Onion organization in 2013, and he afterwards wrote for the film site The Dissolve before returning to The A.V. Club as a freelancer. In 2007 he coined the phrase Manic Pixie Dream Girl, and in the same year he began the column My Year of Flops, which re-examined films that critics and audiences had rejected. His books include a memoir, The Big Rewind, and several works about Weird Al Yankovic, Phish and the Insane Clown Posse. Since 2017 he has written on his own site, Nathan Rabin's Happy Place.
