Nate Silver

Journalists and Broadcasters

Nate Silver (born 1978) is an American statistician, political analyst and author who analyzes baseball, basketball, football and elections. He founded FiveThirtyEight, where he served as editor-in-chief, and was a special correspondent for ABC News until May 2023, after which he began publishing the online newsletter Silver Bulletin. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2009 after his election forecasting model correctly called 49 of 50 states in the 2008 United States presidential election. His models also predicted the 2012 and 2020 presidential elections with high accuracy, and in 2016 he gave the eventual winner a higher chance than most major forecasts did. His approach uses statistical models to understand complex social systems such as professional sports and elections.
