Journalists and Broadcasters

Jules Dubois was a newspaper correspondent, born in New York City on 31 March 1910 and died in Bogotá on 15 August 1966. He was the Latin America correspondent of the Chicago Tribune from 1947 until his death and chaired the press freedom committee of the Inter-American Press Association, which he helped to organise in 1951. He had earlier worked for the New York Herald Tribune and on newspapers in Panama, and in the Second World War he served as an army intelligence officer. He won the 1952 Maria Moors Cabot prize, the 1959 Hero of Freedom Award and the 1966 Golden Pen of Freedom Award, and the association later named its headquarters building for him. In 1977 the New York Times reported he was said to have been a CIA asset.
