Harold Lloyd

Harold Lloyd was an American actor, comedian and stunt performer born in Burchard, Nebraska in 1893, who became one of the most popular and influential comedians of the silent film era. Working mostly in character as a bespectacled, resourceful go-getter, he appeared in close to 200 comedy films between 1914 and 1947, spanning both the silent era and the arrival of sound. His films were noted for elaborate thrill sequences built around extended chases and daredevil physical stunts, many of which he performed himself, including the sequence of him hanging from a clock face high above a city street in Safety Last! from 1923, one of the most enduring images in early cinema. He continued performing despite a 1919 accident that cost him the thumb and forefinger of his right hand, concealing the injury on screen with a specially made prosthetic glove.
