Alan Alda

Alan Alda is an American actor and filmmaker born Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo in 1936, whose career on stage and screen has spanned seven decades. He became widely known for playing Captain Benjamin Franklin Hawkeye Pierce in the CBS television series M*A*S*H from 1972 to 1983, a role in which he also wrote and directed numerous episodes. Beyond that signature role, Alda has worked steadily as a film actor, director and screenwriter, and later became a public advocate for clear scientific communication.
