Fire at Sea

Fire at Sea, known in Italian as Fuocoammare, is a 2016 Italian documentary written and directed by Gianfranco Rosi, filmed over nearly a year on the island of Lampedusa. It examines the European migrant crisis through the everyday life of island residents, centered on a twelve year old boy from a fishing family and a doctor who treats arriving migrants, alongside the dangerous sea crossings migrants make to reach the island. It won the Golden Bear at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival and was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
