March of the Penguins, released in France as La Marche de l'empereur, is a 2005 nature documentary directed by Luc Jacquet, following the annual breeding migration of emperor penguins across the Antarctic ice to their inland breeding grounds. The American theatrical release replaced the original French narration with new English narration written for and read by actor Morgan Freeman. March of the Penguins won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and became one of the highest-grossing documentary films ever released, widely regarded as a landmark commercial success for the nature documentary genre.
