Baraka (1992 film)

Baraka is a 1992 non-narrative documentary directed by Ron Fricke, shot on 70mm film across twenty four countries and six continents over fourteen months, with no dialogue or scripted narrative. It compiles footage of natural landscapes, religious ritual, human labor and technological environments, building on cinematographic techniques Fricke had earlier developed as cinematographer on Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi. Its title, drawn from Islamic tradition, is an Arabic word meaning blessing, and its 2008 high-definition restoration was widely praised by critics for its visual craftsmanship.
