Victor Fleming

Victor Fleming, born Victor Lonzo Fleming in 1889 and died in 1949, was an American film director, cinematographer and producer active from the silent era into the 1940s. He is remembered above all for directing two films released in 1939, The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind, both now ranked among the American Film Institute's ten greatest American films. For Gone with the Wind he won the Academy Award for Best Director. Performers he directed won multiple Academy Awards, including Vivien Leigh for Best Actress and Hattie McDaniel for Best Supporting Actress in Gone with the Wind, while Judy Garland received a special Academy Juvenile Award partly for her performance in The Wizard of Oz. His other films include Captains Courageous in 1937, Treasure Island in 1934 and Joan of Arc in 1948.
