Nicholas Meyer

Nicholas Meyer is an American screenwriter, film and television director and novelist who reshaped the Star Trek film franchise while also working as a prose writer and Sherlock Holmes pastiche author. His bestselling 1974 novel The Seven Per Cent Solution, which paired Sherlock Holmes with Sigmund Freud, was adapted into a 1976 film for which Meyer wrote the screenplay and received an Academy Award nomination. As a director he made Time After Time (1979), a science fiction thriller pairing H. G. Wells with Jack the Ripper, and directed Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), both widely regarded among the strongest entries in the film series; he also co-wrote Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Meyer directed the 1983 ABC television film The Day After, depicting the aftermath of a nuclear war, which became one of the most watched television films in American history and was credited with influencing public debate over nuclear weapons policy.
