Alex Winter

Alex Winter, born Alexander Ross Winter in 1965, is a British American actor, filmmaker and documentarian. He became widely known for playing Bill S. Preston in the Bill and Ted comedy films beginning with Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure in 1989, and for playing the vampire Marko in the 1987 horror film The Lost Boys. Since the 2000s he has built a parallel career directing documentaries on technology, music and culture, including Deep Web in 2015, an examination of the Silk Road case, and Zappa in 2020, a documentary on musician Frank Zappa that was named a critics pick by the New York Times and received a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Music Documentary. Winter has also been recognized for activism around technology and privacy issues.
