Adam McKay, born in 1968, is an American filmmaker who began his career as head writer for the sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live before moving into feature film comedy and satire. Working frequently with Will Ferrell, he directed the studio comedies Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers and The Other Guys. He later turned to satirical dramatizations of real events, directing The Big Short in 2015, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, followed by Vice in 2018 and Don't Look Up in 2021. McKay co-founded the comedy website Funny or Die and in 2019 founded the production company Hyperobject Industries, extending his work as a writer, director and producer across film and television.
