Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro is an American actor, producer and occasional director whose collaborations with Martin Scorsese in Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas helped define American film acting in the 1970s and after. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing the young Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II, where he became the first man to win for an Italian-language performance, and the Academy Award for Best Actor for Raging Bull. He also moved into comedy with Midnight Run, Analyze This and the Meet the Parents films, and into directing with A Bronx Tale and The Good Shepherd. With producer Jane Rosenthal he founded TriBeCa Productions in 1989 and the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002, which makes him a figure in the business and festival side of the film industry as well as a performer. Honours include the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award and the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, and six of his films have been added to the United States National Film Registry.
