Ben Wheatley, born in 1972, is an English filmmaker, film editor and animator who moved from advertising and television comedy into feature films. He won a Lion at the Cannes advertising festival in 2006 for the AMBX viral, directed sketches and series for Channel 4 and the BBC, and in 2009 made his first feature, Down Terrace, in eight days. Kill List followed in 2010 and Sightseers in 2012, and he is best known for thrillers and horror films that carry strong strands of black comedy and satire. His later work includes A Field in England, a black and white English Civil War film written by his partner Amy Jump. His films have won recognition at festivals including South by Southwest, Karlovy Vary, Mar del Plata, Raindance, Toronto and Cannes, and he has received an Evening Standard British Film Award.
