Steven Soderbergh

Steven Soderbergh is an American filmmaker born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1963 who works as a director, cinematographer, screenwriter, and film editor, recognized as a pioneer of modern independent cinema who later made formally inventive films within the studio system. His 1989 debut Sex, Lies, and Videotape won the Palme d'Or at Cannes when he was twenty six and became a catalyst for the 1990s independent film movement. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for Traffic in 2000, becoming the first director nominated for Best Director for two different films in the same year since Michael Curtiz in 1938, and his other work includes the Ocean's trilogy, Contagion, the Magic Mike trilogy, and Logan Lucky. His films have grossed more than 2.2 billion dollars worldwide.
