Stanley Kubrick was an American-born director, screenwriter and producer, based in England for most of his career, known for exacting technical perfectionism and a body of work spanning multiple genres. His films include Paths of Glory, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket, several of which are regarded among the most technically and thematically influential films ever made. Kubrick worked slowly and exercised unusually tight control over cinematography, set design and production, and his final film, Eyes Wide Shut, was released shortly after his death in 1999.
