Roman Polanski is a Polish and French filmmaker born in Paris in 1933, working as a director, producer, screenwriter, and actor since 1953. He won the Academy Award for Best Director in 2002 for The Pianist, and his other acclaimed films include Knife in the Water, Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown, Tess, and The Ghost Writer. Over his career he has received an Academy Award, three British Academy Film Awards, ten Cesar Awards, two Golden Globes, a Golden Bear, and a Palme d'Or. His career has also been significantly affected by legal controversies.
