Michael Curtiz

Michael Curtiz was a Hungarian and American film director, born Manó Kaminer on 25 December 1886 in Budapest and died on 10 April 1962 in Los Angeles. He is recognized as one of the most prolific directors in cinema history, working from the silent era through Hollywood's Golden Age. He had already completed 64 European films when he arrived in Hollywood in 1926, and he became instrumental in the rise of Warner Bros. as a major studio, directing 102 Hollywood films. His best known works include Captain Blood (1935), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Angels with Dirty Faces (1938), Casablanca (1942), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), Mildred Pierce (1945) and White Christmas (1954). He won the Academy Award for Best Director for Casablanca and was nominated five times in all.
