Anthony Minghella

Anthony Minghella (January 6, 1954 to March 18, 2008) was a British playwright, filmmaker, screenwriter and producer born in Ryde, Isle of Wight. He served as chairman of the British Film Institute's board from 2003 to 2007. He directed Truly Madly Deeply in 1990, The English Patient in 1996, The Talented Mr. Ripley in 1999, and Cold Mountain in 2003, and produced Iris in 2001. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for The English Patient and received three further Oscar nominations, for Best Adapted Screenplay on both The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley, and a posthumous Best Picture nomination as producer of The Reader in 2008. His career spanned theater, television, radio and film from 1975 until his death in London at age fifty four.
