Chick flick

Chick flick is a slang term for films marketed specifically to women, typically younger female audiences, and centered on love and romance, though also encompassing parent-child or friendship stories rather than romance alone. The term became widespread in the 1980s and 1990s but traces its roots to the women's pictures of the early twentieth century and to 1940s and 1950s film noir, with the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's often cited as an early example of the modern form.
