Garfield

Garfield is an American comic strip and media franchise created by Jim Davis. It was originally published locally under the title Jon starting in 1976, then went into nationwide syndication from 1978 as Garfield, chronicling the life of the title character, a lazy, gluttonous and sarcastic cat, alongside a dim witted dog named Odie and their owner Jon Arbuckle. As of 2013 the strip was syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals, and it held the Guinness World Record for the world's most widely syndicated comic strip. Although the strip itself rarely names its setting, the television special Happy Birthday, Garfield places Garfield in Muncie, Indiana, the hometown of creator Jim Davis, and the strip's humor centers on Garfield's appetite, laziness and interactions with the people and animals around him.
