All Comics-Originated Franchises

Media franchises whose fictional universe first appeared in a comic strip, comic book or graphic album, following the medium-of-origin convention this atlas uses for the whole series-franchise type: placed by where the franchise first appeared, not by which installment is most commercially prominent today. Belongs here: Asterix, Batman, Spider-Man, Tintin and X-Men, each of which began in comics before any film or television adaptation. Does not belong here: a franchise such as Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is the film and television umbrella built from Marvel Comics characters and is grouped separately as film-originated, since the umbrella entity itself named here is the screen franchise, not the comics line.
