Anthology series

Broadcasting

An anthology series presents a different story and often a different cast in each installment, whether as a written series, or on radio, television, film or video game. Some anthology programs, such as Four Star Playhouse, instead kept a permanent troupe of actors who appeared in a different drama each week, and the format has moved between media, as when Studio One expanded from radio to television. In 2011, American Horror Story introduced a season-based variant in which each season rather than each episode tells a standalone story, a model since echoed by American Crime Story and True Detective.
