Lilo & Stitch

Lilo & Stitch is a 2002 animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, written and directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, set in Hawaii, following Lilo, a lonely young girl being raised by her older sister, who adopts a genetically engineered alien fugitive, Experiment 626, disguised as a dog and later named Stitch, whose destructive instincts gradually give way to loyalty as Lilo teaches him the Hawaiian concept of ohana, meaning that family means no one is left behind or forgotten. Made on a comparatively modest budget using watercolor-influenced backgrounds rather than the studio's recent CGI-heavy productions, it was a critical and commercial success and launched an extensive Disney franchise.
