Hercules (1997 film)

Animated Feature Films

Hercules is a 1997 animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, loosely adapted from the Greek myth of Heracles, following the mortal-turned-god son of Zeus, cast out to earth as a baby by the underworld god Hades and raised on Earth, who must become a true hero to reclaim his place on Mount Olympus, aided by satyr trainer Philoctetes and cynical love interest Megara. Narrated in part by a gospel-styled Greek chorus of Muses, the film took considerable liberties with its mythological source material, most notably recasting Hera as Hercules's loving mother rather than his mythological persecutor. James Woods's performance as the fast-talking Hades was widely praised.
