U-Carmen eKhayelitsha is a 2005 South African film directed by Mark Dornford-May, performed in Xhosa by a largely non-professional cast. It relocates Bizet's opera Carmen to Khayelitsha, a township near Cape Town, blending the original opera score with South African musical traditions. The film won the Golden Bear for best film at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2005.
